After 4 Years of Use, Buying a Replacement
Well my Monster iCarPlay finally bit the dust after four years. Yes, I do know how to use it. I routinely check my iPod's sound level before attaching it to the adapter. Oh and so you'll know my 60gb iPod Photo just bit the dust as well. Happy owner of a new 120gb iPod now. But I digress. Figured Amazon would be as good a place as any for the replacement because I plan to order a few other items at the same time. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the preponderance of the reviews for this product are at the lowest possible level. I decided I better look at others, I selected a Sony and a Phillips. Both have about 25% of their ratings at the lowest level. The descriptions of the sound quality with both though were underwhelming to me. So I am back to the iCarPlay because the previous one provided excellent sound quality, no extraneous sounds and worked well in my car. Of course I wish the cable hadn't frayed at the plug, but things to wear out, especially as rough as I treat them. By the way I would have rated this at 4 Stars but I haven't been able to rate anything on Amazon for over a month no matter which browser I use.

Works perfectly
This adapter works perfectly with an iPhone 3G in an old off-brand auto tape deck.

The sound is excellent, the noise is minimal. It is cheap, yet it vastly outperforms high-end iPod FM adapters (and I have tried several of them).

That said, this kind of adapter is very tape-deck specific, so it may or may not work well in some decks. IF it works, it is super, just be sure that you can return it if your player won't accept it.

ipod cassette adapter failed
I purchased two auto ipod cassette adapters. One for myself and one for my wife. Shortly afterwards, they both failed. They wouldn't stay in the cassette deck. I bought two more, one from radio shack and one from circuit city. I've had no problem with either. My first dissapointment from a regular and otherwise happy customer

Looks good
but its sucks!!! I spent extra cash to get the "best", don't get it! I put it in and it starts clicking, I thought it would stop but even after I got my ipod running it clicked louder. I'm returning it, any suggestions on a better one? I was thinkin Belkin or sony... thanks

Good if you know how to use it.
A lot of the reviews I've seen on this site complain of this adapter's poor sound quality- that couldn't be farther from the truth. This adapter plays back sound excellent through an iPod. The users here experiencing trouble do not know what they are doing unfortunately and don't know how to configure this device properly, or they have terrible sound systems.

If you read the instructions on the packaging it indicates that sound playback is best with your iPod volume adjusted to about 75%. Doing this produces excellent sound quality through the tape adapter. I'm using this in my Infiniti G35 with a Bose sound system.

I've had the adapter now about 9-10 months and my only complaint with it right now is that recently it has been having issues playing back in my car. Specifically, sometimes when I start my car up and the tape deck attempts to play the cassette, it has trouble doing so and will auto-reverse to side 1, then back to side 2, and eventually eject itself with a tape deck error message. This seems to happen the most right after starting the vehicle or sometimes when I hit bumps while driving. I've tried to look into the cause of this and from what I've read the issue seems to arise from rubber rollers that cover the plastic rollers within the mechanism and their tendency to get stuck and cause problems in the playback. It was also suggested to remove those rubber rollers to improve playback but I haven't tried this yet. However, the playback errors are happening quite frequently now so I will probably either try that or buy a different tape adapter soon.
