I'm not getting anywhere near 150ft out of it, but I live in a brick basement so I'm not going to complain too much. It seems to work as advertised. My only complaint is that the antenna probably won't last long. I'll be moving the transmitter around a lot, and I'm almost sure to rip it out at some point. It shouldn't be a big deal though. I'm confident I can replace it on my own if it happens, and for most people this won't be a big issue.
Best one on market for local mobile audio castingI did a really thorough search on portable FM transmitters before buying. First thing to mention: if you buy, order through the maker's website,[...], to get free shipping, free one-year warranty, etc. Second thing, this product unleashes you from having to sit your portable device next to your stereo to listen to webcasts, music, etc because it has far more power than the almost-zero-power Belkin FM transmitters and other lower-cost units that only work if you sit in the car within 2 feet of your radio. Third thing, the quality of channel separation and range have more to do with the quality of your stereo receiver than the quality of this device, so get a decent boombox or stereo and you should be able to hear just fine. Fourth thing, the other high-powered FM transmitter advertises that its range is up to 450 feet, but that one transmits only in mono and so is inadequate for stereo music.
This product is definitely worth buying! It is to working around the house what the CD Walkman (play your own music) was to running!
great productThis works well. If you have quality receivers you will be satisfied. I have one of these by my computer and I can broadcast to all the radios in my home and out by my pool. Great for parties. I had a cheap boombox for the pool and i had trouble. I blamed the transmitter for a while, but I borrowed a radio from my sister and everything was fine. I bought a new boombox and have had no issues since.
Works Great For Me!I was purchasing a new sound system and wanted a method to listen to the sound system (which is upstairs) to the basement of my house. I heard Ron Rossburg on Leo Laporte's radio show recommend this and I have not been disappointed.
Setup:
Very easy to install. The box gives you everything you need. You can even power the transmitter through a USB port on a computer (recommended: this method tends to reduce any humming you may receive plugging it into an electrical outlet, or use the battery powered option). Check online for unused fm frequencies and play with the transmitter to find an empty frequency to transmit on. You can plug anything into it and transmit a signal, provided the device has a headphone jack.
A recommendation
Get yourself some old stereo wire, use electrical tape, tape the wire to the antenna and run the wire up the wall. The reception will be outstanding! I can go halfway down the street and still pick up the signal. I often wonder if any of my neighbors have picked up my little radio station. They might wonder about this wierd radio station that plays the audio from CNN much of the time!
Overall:
This is a device you may have to adjust to make it work for where you live. While it gives your everything you need, it may not be an "out of the box setup" for you. Once you get it working though, it delivers.
Four out of five stars.
WeakI have been very disappointed with this product. From the start I have only been able to get the weakest signal. I called and they suggested "putting it in a higher location" and told me I could extend the antenna - it is just a wire, if it needs to be longer why doesn't it come that way? Even with the radio in the same room it is weak. They said that it doesn't work well with radios that don't have digital tuning - like most of the clock radios and boom boxes in my house! Also they said that often it doesn't work in bigger cities - too much interference. They should really put that on the website. And now, after a few months, I get nothing - seems to not work at all anymore. | Podcasts and Videos | Creating MP3 Files |
